TWIC stands for Transportation Worker Identification Credential. This form of identification is required under the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 (MTSA).
Before issuing this card, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will conduct a ‘ security threat assessment’ of the applicant. It’s an in-depth background check to certify that you’re of sound legal standing.

How to get a TWIC card?

Step .1 Register online.
Truckers can book an appointment using the online TWIC application form or by visiting a local application center.
The TSA accommodates walk-in applicants, but those with appointments will be given priority.
Take note that TWIC cards are only issued to U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, naturalized American citizens, asylees, or refugees in lawful status.
Step 2. Submit the requirements
Before you go to your appointment at a TWIC application center, make sure that you bring the necessary documentation.

For replacement cards, the fee is $60. Renewals cost the same as a new card in person, but the fee is reduced to $117.25 when requested online.
How long before I can get my TWIC card?
It will take at least 10 days for most applicants to receive their TWIC cards. This turnaround time is only possible if you don’t have any disqualifying factors.
Due to potential disqualification factors and delivery issues, the TSA recommends applying at least 60 days in advance.
Take note that your TWIC card application could get delayed if you have criminal history records, immigration issues, and other legal matters that need to be confirmed. To know if your application has problems, you can check your application status on the TSA website.
Either way, you’ll receive your TWIC card through the mail or by picking it up at the enrolment center where you applied. All TWIC cards are valid for five years upon their issuance.
If you haven’t received your TWIC card after 60 days from your application, you should report it to the TSA. Take note that failure to report non-receipt within 60 days will cost you $60 for the replacement card.
